Important Alert on Telstra 3G Network!!
Telstra is upgrading the 3G network, ensuring a smooth transition and improving the future capabilities of 4G and 5G networks. We are committed to helping you achieve a smooth transition despite potential disruptions.
WHAT'S GOING ON?
Starting on 1st September 2024, Telstra will initiate the repurposing (re-farming) of the 3G services to enhance the 4G network and facilitate the advancement of 5G technology. This significant move aims to ensure customers access the most optimal network experience. Upon the commencement of the 3G Network re-farming in September 2024, 3G services will no longer be available on the Telstra network.
WHAT CHANGES DOES THIS IMPLY?
The impending changes will affect any device dependent on 3G. Consequently, certain devices will lose compatibility with the Telstra mobile network, leading to potential disruptions in Telsim service for customers using these devices from 1st September 2024. We aim to reach out to customers whom we anticipate might be affected well ahead of the scheduled change date.
HOW CAN I VERIFY MY PHONE'S COMPATIBILITY?
Most phones recently acquired or available for purchase in Australia should remain able to access the Telstra mobile network. If you own an older device or anticipate potential compatibility issues, it’s crucial to verify your device specifications to ensure ongoing compatibility.
To ensure continued network compatibility, it’s important to confirm that your device supports the following:
You can typically find device-specific compatibility information on your manufacturer’s website by referring to the specification guide for your particular device.
Usually, frequency information is located within a section labelled Mobile and Wireless or Networks & Connectivity, while VoLTE information can be found under Audio Calling or Voice features.
If you’re unable to locate the necessary information online for your device, you’ll need to reach out directly to your device manufacturer for assistance.
Here's an example of how to confirm the device's compatibility
Suppose you are using an iPhone SE; in that case, you should visit Apple’s website and check the device’s specifications guide, ensuring that the specified frequencies are listed.
In this particular scenario, the iPhone SE maintains compatibility since the 4G 700 MHz (LTE Band 28) is included in the specs guide under the Mobile and Wireless section, and VoLTE is listed under Audio Calling.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY DEVICE IS INCOMPATIBLE?
If your device is no longer compatible, consider acquiring a new device that is compatible to prevent any interruptions in your Telsim service or exploring alternative service providers.
It is highly advised to invest in a 4G VoLTE-compatible device to ensure the longevity and seamless functionality of your mobile experience.
Numerous phones currently available in Australia or recently sold fully support the Telstra Mobile Network. Some examples include:
